Junior Industrial Designer
Tom joined Vert Design in early 2022 and is currently undertaking a degree in Product Design (Honors) at the University of Technology Sydney. He is fascinated by how things are made, interested in understanding how all product components fuse together to create a seamless design. Tom loves the hands-on process of designing and has developed his skills in wood and metal works through his experience building furniture and tinkering away on vehicles in the workshop.
Whilst at Vert, Tom has worked on consumer facing products including water bubblers, sports equipment and musical furniture pieces. He has assisted with concept development through the creation of sketches, technical drawings and presentation renders that explore project directions, refine design details and push concepts further. Tom has considered attention to detail when creating handmade pieces and using CAD software to bring ideas to life.
Tom is driven by his desire to make a difference and impact the world in a positive way. He believes that small incremental changes throughout a products lifecycle such as designing for repairability, and using high quality materials or emerging technologies can disrupt the status quo and address changing contexts in making design outcomes more sustainable. Tom is excited for the bioeconomy to evolve and to experiment with using emerging biomaterials in new ways, contexts and processes.
